Message: Hi,
My family are trying to find info on Ben Sutherland? he used to lodge with my grandmother whilst attending Essex University between 1967 -69? He was connected to Alnwick Castle, Northumberland and according to my grandmother was the Lord and lady sutherlands son. She is now deceased so we may be slightly inaccurate with regards his surname. seeing your mention of being at Essex about that time i wonder if you might have know him and could confirm / fill us in on anything you may recall about him.
many thanks

Message: Hi
very strange after 35 years is it, must be the basis of an awful hollywood film !
shortened version of my life, still one daughter Teresa, I assume you know shes spent time in Malaysia and is now in Australia for a short time although I suspect they may spend longer as they are enjoying life there. We had some good trips to Malaysia which went some way to make up for missing her. Im back with Social services after spending about 12 years in further education, and before that being a social worker.Back living in Nottingham City although spent about 6 years living in a village, which was rather peaceful. I don't go to Essex very often, my parents are no longer alive, one of my sisters lives in Rayleigh but I only see her occasionally.
Have you made contact with other people from our era? Teresa was delighted with the photos you sent her , unfortuately she hasnt managed to send them on, having great difficulty apparantly. Would you mind sending them to me directly so I can be horrifyed by my fashion sense.
Your job sounds high powered and potentially interesting or is it like most management about budgets.Besides work , what do you do with yourself,
hope you and Alison are in good health

Message: Brian, came across your amazingly interesting site by accident. I have visited it a couple of times, and am still not sure which present-day picture is you! I've been looking for the guy with hair down to his shoulders... I've lived in America for the past 25 years, first 12 in Denver, and the last 13 in Maryland. Was married, am divorced, and have one fine 18 year-old son who lives with me. Latter years I have visited England twice a year, usually staing with my sister who now owns the family home in Corbets Tey Road, Upminster (after my parents died). A man of very modest means, I sought, and have lead, an interesting though quiet life. Regards, Charles

Judging by the pix of our son hugo (now 29 and married and living in the US with his wife who is about to make us grandparents for the first time), this pic was taken around 1978. We moved into The Limes in June 1978 and are still living there, largely because the thought of trying to fit John's gear into anywhere less rambling and capacious is just too daunting.

Found your album by chance and really enjoyed looking at your pics. Hope
you remember me - I was on Alison's art course at Essex '70-'73. I am now a
freelance writer and editor of children's books, mainly reading programmes -
no kids, but partner and 2 Russian Blue cats, living in London. I keep
vaguely in touch with a handful of people from Essex but there's never
enough time and always too much space between us all ...
Take care!
Love
Gill

My name is Laura Duran, and I am a Spanish teacher in a public
school in Massachusetts. My colleagues and I are completing an exciting pbu
(project based unit) which is an online unit for 5th grade, integrating
Spanish, Social Studies, Science and Math in a unit on the Costa Rican
rainforest and particularly the plight of the endangered squirrel monkey.
Could we please use your photos we have found at this site?
If so, to whom should we give credit?
Awaiting your prompt reply,
Thank you so much,
Laura Duran

Dear Alison & Brian,
A friend of mine recently discovered your website (she'd typed my name into a search engine) so I thought I'd drop you a line and say 'hi'.
...I have good memories of meeting you and travelling with you in Greece that time, and that you were the first people to tell me about Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy!
All the best,
Pat.

re. Essex people... Many years ago I was there. At least I think I was there. Of course I had a different name then, I was called Jis. Strangely there are still people around who still call me that. And I looked different, skinny with lots of hair. All almost gone now. I’ve been living off and on in the States since 1989. For the most part I worked at Microsoft, till I retired in 1998. Now the money’s going the way of the hair and I’m doing a contract back there. I’m still in occasional contact with several folk from Essex: Jim O’Connor, Jenny Spencer-Smith, Annabel Simms et al – remember them? I’m trying to locate Min Brooks and Martin Hutton. At one point several years ago I managed to locate Martin, somewhere in Chicago I think. But then I lost touch. I saw you’ve met up with Min, can you get me her phone number or email? Likewise Hutton if you know it. I just can’t believe how everyone seems to have grown up except me. Cheers.-jonathan/jis

Hi, I am not really related to your site in any way, but just
stumbled on it by accident. I think it's beautifully put together. Did you
write the code for this? Did you use something like Fireworks or Frontpage?
Or is there some sort of code generator you used? I'd like to do the same
for my extended family. Whatever you did, it looks fabulous. Very clean.
